Challenge
Following a major refurbishment, Darlington Libraries wanted to draw more visitors into the building and highlight the recent renovations. The team also understood that younger audiences are now seeking experiences that use more advanced technologies.
Solution
We collaborated with Big Brave to create a web-based application that launches a series of Augmented Reality experiences. The application features two interactive elements - Rub-to-Reveal and an AR Montage. Rub-to-Reveal allows users to view the library’s evolution from the early 1900s to the modern day. They can simply rub their screen to transition through the eras and explore the changes in 360 degrees.
QR codes positioned on a physical timeline also unlock content that celebrates some of the region’s engineering feats. Users can view and interact with 3D models of Locomotive No.1 and the Fowler Plough in their physical environment. Detailed information about each invention is also displayed on the screen to educate the user.
